A History of Giving

The Varkey Family

Ever since the Varkey family arrived in Dubai in the late 50s, they have been synonymous with education and charity. The Chairman of GEMS Education is Sunny Varkey. Even when his father earned a mere 5000 Rupees a month, he donated 500 Rupees to charitable causes. Faced with requests for assistance from family, friends and acquaintances, the family helps and provides. ‘Giving’ is the word that best describes the Varkey family’s ethos and Sunny Varkey and his family carry on this tradition to this day.

GEMS Schools

One of GEMS four core values is ‘Global Citizenship’ which emphasizes the importance of ‘giving’ to both the local and global community.The GEMS community has been committed to ‘giving’ for many years and our students, staff and parents have been involved in a wide variety of community based charity initiatives.
 
Throughout GEMS’ 50 year history, GEMS students, parents and teachers have raised tens of millions of dollars for causes that matter most to them.
