GEMS student sets World Record Score for ISC Examinations
Dubai, UAE - May 20, 2012: Rohan Sampath from Dubai Modern High School, a GEMS school, has set a world record for the highest score since the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations began in 1958.
Rohan scored 99.5 per cent in the ISC Class XII examinations and his results included: 100 per cent Mathematics, 100 per cent Physics, 100 per cent Computer Science and 98 per cent English.
He says he is over the moon at the results: "I am on cloud nine and a half and cannot quite believe this has happened, when I got the results I thought it was a 'typo'!
"The school should get a major part of the credit, the senior leadership team and particularly my teachers have been fabulous and amazingly committed…and of course my parents! Everything about Dubai Modern High School is conducive to learning. We are encouraged to do research outside the classroom and then share with our classmates, which makes for engaging learning."
So what is the secret to his success?
"We had brilliant facilities for extra-curricular activities which help supplement learning in the classroom, I find it really important to do extracurricular activities because it keeps me motivated, it relaxes me and takes my mind off academics. This helps me study 'smart'.
"There is no tried and true formula to study and finish homework; I did not have set hours each day, I just studied until I felt I had a good grasp of what I had been taught that day."
What does he want to achieve?
I really want to try and make a difference in the world even if I am not recognized for it. That is the unofficial motto of Dubai Modern High.”
Principal Darryl Bloud said Rohan’s results caps off a marvellous year: “As we celebrate ‘25 Years of Excellence’ at Dubai Modern High, the Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau’s ‘Outstanding’ rating has strengthened our resolve to continue nurturing and encouraging our students to achieve their full potential. Rohan Sampath has re-defined the term ‘full potential’ by raising the bar at Modern High with his phenomenal achievement at the ISC Examinations 2012. We salute this outstanding member of the Modern community.”
Rohan has chosen to attend Stanford University and study either Economics or Engineering.
