Ms Fiona Curtis Head of Year Five

Year Five Teacher

B.ED (Honours), Geography from Oxford Brookes University, UK Ms Curtis taught in Years 3 and 4 as a Class Teacher and PE Coordinator at Holy Trinity School, UK from 1996 to 1999. She was then supply teaching in Australia from 2000 to 2001. Ms Curtis was a Year 3 and 4 Teacher and PE Coordinator at Parkfield Primary School, UK from 2001 to 2002, before she joined Queenswell Junior School as a Year 4 and Teacher, Head of Year and PE Coordinator from 2002 to 2005. From 2005 – 2006 she was the School Sports Coordinator for Barnet South, before joining JPS in 2006.

Mr Peter Campion Year Five Teacher

B.Ed, Western Australian College, Australia Mr Campion began teaching in Perth, Western Australia where he taught for four years, before he moved to Melbourne where he taught for the next seven years. Mr Campion then taught at Rygaards International School, Copenhagen for eight years, as Head of Science in the Primary Department. He joined JPS in 2003 and taught Year 4for 3 years before moving into Year 3 in 2007.

Ms Jenny Barratt Year Five Teacher

PGCE Primary Education, Gloucestershire University

Miss Barratt’s enthusiastic passion to becoming a Primary School Teacher began after graduating from Sheffield University with a BSC honors in Psychology. She gained experience working as a Teaching Assistant supporting children with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties within Gay Elms Primary School in Bristol, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She then went on to study at Gloucestershire University where she graduated with a PGCE in Education.Miss Barratt has had experience teaching in both key stage one and two, enjoying all aspects of the curriculum. Most recently she took up a teaching position at Thelwall Junior School in Cheshire 3 years ago. During that time she taught Year 4, Year 5 and was also appointed the school’s Literacy Coordinator. She enjoys being able to have an impact on children’s learning, and also social development, to allow each pupil to gain the best education. Miss Barratt loves to be creative with arts and crafts within the classroom. She enjoys keeping fit by running and playing netball. Finally, she looks forward to contributing to the effective teaching and learning practices across the school.

Mrs Alison Lawton Year Five Teacher

BA (Hons) History of Film & Media- 2:1, Manchester Metropolitan University

Mrs Lawton first completed a Media degree which led to working as a children’s TV and Film Casting Agent. After working closely with drama students she pursued a career in teaching. Ms Padmore taught in a primary school in Cheshire for three years, were she was a year 3 and year 5 class teacher. She also took curriculum responsibility for Numeracy, PE, RE, Assessment and mentored NQTs and trainee teachers. She is currently working towards a MA in Teaching and Learning, focussing on Thinking Skills, P4C, thematic child led curriculum and leadership.

Mr Alexio Plymen Year Five Teacher

BA (Honours) Spanish and Music, Oxford Brookes University, UK.  PGCE, South Bank University, London, UK. Mr Plymen began teaching at St. Mary’s Primary School, Swanley in 2006. He joined JPS in 2008 as a Music teacher, before becoming a Year 5 teacher in 2009. Mr Plymen looks forward to another successful year in Year 5.

Ms Lisa Gwilliam Year Five Teacher

Art and Maths, Exeter University, UK Ms. Gwilliam began teaching in the Middle East 18 years ago. Graduating from Exeter University, specialising in Art and Maths, she has been Year Head and class teacher in a variety of year levels, while also performing specialist Art and Literacy roles. She has been instrumental in writing art policies and successfully implementing innovative schemes of work during her time in International Schools in Kuwait and UAE. She first moved to Dubai to join JPS three years ago, teaching years 5 and 6. Ms Gwilliamis now returning from Canada with her family after 6 month leave of absence.

Mr John Stapley Head of Year Six

Originally from Preston in the North West of England, Mr Stapley began his teaching career in 1996 at a Junior School in Stevenage, England before moving to Dubai. Mr Stapley is re-joining JPS, having originally taught here from 2000-2007. Throughout his teaching career he has previously been both a class and specialist teacher and has held a variety of subject responsibilities and been Head of Year

Mrs Sarah Lewis Year Six Teacher

B.Ed. (Honours) English,  Homerton College, Cambridge. Mrs Sarah Lewis graduated from Homerton College, Cambridge, in 1992 with a Bachelor of Education Honours degree, with English as her main subject.As well as teaching Key Stage 2 children in the UK, her career has encompassed teaching and advising in five British International Schools across Europe, Africa and Asia. She is an experienced classroom teacher across a wide age-range and has experience in several additional roles across three Key Stages, including the co-ordination of English, Year Group Leader and Graduate Trainee Mentor. Mrs Lewis came to Dubai four years ago with her husband and two children, and, in addition to supply teaching in several schools, she has recently been working with a language institute, teaching English as an additional language to both adults and children. Mrs Lewis enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures, and has a great interest in art, literature, music and drama. She is also interested in science, nature, humanities, world politics and current affairs. She relaxes by skiing, doing quiz nights and pilates.

Mrs Dawn El Masri Year Six Teacher

BA (Hons) in History at Swansea University TEFL qualification at Anglo school, London, UK 
Primary Certificate of Education at Oxford Brookes University in the U.K.
Mrs El Masri has taught for 10 years in Oxfordshire, mainly in Year 6, but also in Years 2,4, 5 and 7. She started her career in an International school in Saudi Arabia where she taught all grades as a teacher before becoming the Arabic Culture teacher. Her area of specialism is Literacy which she has co-ordinated for 6 years both in primary and secondary schools. Dawn has also co-ordinated Numeracy, History, Geography, MFL and  The Arts, as well as being Lead Teacher for G&T.

Ms Carlie Stone Year Six Teacher

BA QTS, Roehampton University of Surrey, UK Ms Carlie Stone gained valuable teaching experience at Southfield Primary School in London before joining JPS in 2007. Ms Stone brings a wealth of energy and experience in teaching and learning to Year 6.

Mr Mathew Weir Year Six Teacher

BA ED (HONS) Primary Education, Goldsmiths University, London Mr Weir began his career teaching Year 6 in an inner city London school. He thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to teach in a culturally diverse community and the challenges it brought. He then moved to Thailand and taught in an international school, which was an experience he found greatly rewarding. Mr Weir moved back to London where he has been teaching Year 6 for the past four years. He is PE and Numeracy coordinator and also works for the borough of Westminster as a lead teacher. Mr Weir is very much looking forward to moving to Dubai with his young family and becoming part of the JPS team.

Ms Vicky Arnold Year Six Teacher

BA (Hons) in Media University of Bedfordshire and QTS University of Hertfordshire Ms Arnold began her career in education as a TA at a school in the South of England where she worked with small groups of children supporting their Literacy and Maths work. She was invited by the school to apply for the GTP (graduate teacher program) having graduated from the University of Bedfordshire in Media. Part of her degree was for prospective teachers containing an introduction into teaching. Ms Arnold remained with the school following her QTS award and NQT year teaching Y4/5, Y2/3 and Y6. She was also Music and PE Co-ordinator. Ms Arnold then took her first leadership role at another school in Hertfordshire, teaching Y6 and leading Literacy. She was also mentor to an NQT and taught in Y5. Ms Arnold is passionate about reading, drama and inspiring children to reach their potential. She enjoys travel, theatre, film, keeping fit, playing the piano and cooking in her own time.
