The Millennium School On Environmental Awareness

The Millennium School has been actively involved in promoting environmental awareness to its pupils. In the year 2010 as a member school of the Emirates Environmental Group, Dubai Municipality and the International Environmental Group the school has participated in many of the activities organized by the above organizations.The students have actively participated in the following events:

Interactive Spellathon

Emirates Wildlife Society and Dubai Municipality’s workshop on Interactive Spellathon was attended by Mrs SuryaPrabha. Later all students from Grade 2 to Grade 11 (about 985 students in all ) took up the test. The results were excellent. More than 90 % were awarded an Excellent Grade and remaining were given a Good rating.

Environmental Drawing Competition:
200 students took part in a painting competition on the theme of ‘Water Conservation’ & Wastage’ & ‘Save Water’ organised by EEG.
We are very proud of our student Simran Vedayas of Grade 7 who won the Runners Up prize

EEG had initiated recycling of tetra-packs and a bin for the purpose was installed in our school. The students were briefed on its use.

The Earth Hour programme organized by DEWA .Our school participated by switching off all the lights between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm.

My Tree in Dubai Campaign organized by EEG wherein in exchange of 60 Kgs of newspapers you get to plant a tree in your name. Taruni a student of Gd 7 Occampanied by a teacher Mrs Bala planted a tree in the name of the school in Zabeel park.

 Interschool Environmethental Public Speaking Competition
For the EEG’s annual Inter school Environmenatal Public Speaking Competition this year our school sent two groups of boys and competed in both the catergories. We were the proud winners in the Sub-Seniors category and Pranav Mathew of grade 11 was declared the best speaker.
 

Our school dancers performed at the closing ceremony at the event.

Recycle Rewards Event.
Our students are actively involved in the Expofolia Scholarship Programme sponsored by Frankfurt Exhibition Organisers Umm Quwain wherein newspapers are collected on a daily basis and brought in every Thursday and is later picked up by the organizers. It is an ongoing process and is very successful.

Can collection drive.
The 2nd Can collection drive again organized by the E.E.G this year was a big success with our school. Our students were very enthusiastic in the drive excelled themselves and collected 192 KGs of cans.


Recycling of textiles initiated by CSR. A recycling bin for clothes and shoes has been placed in the premises to encourage students to bring in outgrown and unwanted clothes and shoes in good usable condition for recycling.

Paperless Day.
Efforts were made by all to observe the day as a paperless day. Photocopyiong, printing and sending and receiving fax was avoided. Loose paper work like worksheets, art work, napkins and tissues were totally banned for the day.
The programme was very successful and the students were made aware of how much paper was being consumed /wasted in a day.

ART from WASTE

Our school participated in the exhibition of displaying items made out of recycled things and put up a good display and it was much appreciated.

   

OLD MOBILE COLLECTION DRIVE

E.E.G and Nokia’s Take Back Campaign launched a Mobile recycling scheme wherein for every 25 mobiles collected the school was entitled to a sapling which was to be planted in the Tree planting campaign.

The entire school from KG to Grade 12 got totally involved and collected more than 100 old mobiles which was handed over to EEG in exchange for 4 saplings.
In exchange for the mobiles collected EEG had invited the school for THE TREE PLANTING campaign in Mushrif Park where Mrs Surya Prabha along with some students planted trees in the name of the school.

Clean up the world.
Dubai Muncipality had organized a Clean Up Drive at the Al Sofouh-1 beach area on the 28th of October. More than 200 students of the primary 4th grade and girls of the 7th grade participated in the event. Our school was recognized as the school with the maximum volunteers.
 

Visit to DEWA Power station.
Dubai government had invited the school to visit their DEWA Power plant at Je bel Ali on the 10th of November in order to contribute to Dubai and Society whilst supporting the environment and to comprehend the processes involved in the operational procedure of the power station.
About 20 students of the Student Council accompanied by 2 teachers visited the premises.

To sum up our school students have all shown a keen sense of environmental awareness in being ever willing participants of any event be it clean-up campaigns or marathon walks to promote a social cause.
