The daughter of the Kenyan Prime Minister Ms. Rosemary Odinga visited The Millennium School Dubai on Monday 12th December 2011. She was accompanied by Mr David McLaughlin Principal of Cambridge International School and Mr Anthony Joseph Principal of GEMS Millennium School Sharjah. Ms. Rosemary is a part of the Raila Odinga Centre (ROC) which is a non-profit foundation started in June 2009. The Centre was founded by the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga to enact the vision of facilitating sustainable regional development. As a result of poverty, lack of infrastructure, poor accessibility to healthcare and education ROC realizes the considerable need for ongoing community development. Ms. Rosemary Odinga and the accompanying guests were received by the Principal of TMS Mr Michael Guzder.
A power point presentation on the Round Square and Best Buddies was done by the senior students, followed by a session where Ms Rosemary Odinga spoke about core values such as honesty, compassion, the right to freedom and respect for all. She stated that “The role of education in eradicating poverty cannot be overstated. Education is the foundation for achieving higher living standards and an imperative tool in the long-term abolition of poverty. Our education mission is to support sustainable projects. It was an interactive session where students of Grade 11 asked questions about the ROC foundation. It was an enriching experience for students to hear such an inspiring and passionate message about the need for educational enhancement and youth empowerment in Africa. |
