On 17th March, we (a group of 21 students and 2 teachers) of the Millennium School, Dubai gathered at The Dubai International Airport, Terminal 1 with anticipation and excitement for a trip to United States. Our trip included a visit to New York, Washington and Orlando.
In New York we went to Time Square which is a very busy place. A chance to shop at the largest ‘TOYS R US’ store had us picking almost every toy and game in the shop.A visit to ‘Statue of Liberty’ and the view from the 84th floor of the ‘Empire State Building’ was breathtaking. We were led through a city tour which covered China town, Wall Street-to Ground Zero, the Brooklyn River and many other places.

After two days in New York, we set off to Washington DC by road. The fully blossomed Cherry blossom trees on the way were a sight to behold! In Washington we saw the senate house and walked to the White house down Pennsylvania Avenue. We learnt a lot about American History as we drove to the Lincoln Memorial.

The visit to the ‘Smithsonian Institute Air and Space Museum’ was very enlightening We saw different exhibits as our teachers explained to us various concepts in science such as Air pressure, thrust, friction etc.

The next day we flew to Orlando and knew we were heading for fun when we went to Epcot –an Amusement park straight after lunch. The following day we went to one of the most exciting and magnificent places in the world –Disney Land, Magic Kingdom. It was like a childhood dream come true! There were many marvelous rides. In the evening we saw the parade with all the Disney characters. The Disney castle lit up at night and looked spectacular. We also saw amazing 4D movies, which was a terrific experience.

Having had fun for four days, on the 5th day we had to focus on the educational aspect of the tour. We went to NASA Kennedy Space Centre and for 3 days were taken through an amazing journey and training. This included a tour to the rocket launching stations, a chance to engage in group activities, which included making our own rocket and launching them, and working on simulators and getting the launching and landing on another planet experience. The highlight of the 3day training was however the lunch we had with astronaut ‘Fred Gregory’ who patiently answered all our queries about his several journeys and stay in space. The Imax movies gave us a view of how astronauts worked in satellite stations.

Our trip culminated with a visit to the Universal Studios, Florida . There were heart-throbbing, family-entertaining and thrilling rides. Other than rides and amazing 4D movies, we got to learn how things work behind the screen. This gave us an insight into how much effort goes into making a movie.
The memories of this trip will last us forever. We would like to thank the school management for organizing this trip and would also like to thank Mrs.BalaSadasivan and Mr.Sreekumar for their continuous support and taking care of us. This was indeed a fun and educational trip!!
