Leadership Team

GEMS experience and expertise in education management across a variety of international curriculum ensures that infrastructure and resources in all schools meet high teaching and learning standards.

The primary focus of the education management team is to create policies and operating structures that meet world class standards of high quality education. The team also coordinates the entire range of school operations to ensure seamless integration of all services and provision.

Due to our international reach GEMS is able to recruit high calibre professionals from around the world. GEMS most valuable resource is our team of dynamic education professionals that steer the high standards of teaching and learning in all GEMS schools.

Regular assessment and training programmes provide employees with opportunities for professional growth and a platform to develop new skills. Additionally, GEMS provides its staff a wide range of professional development opportunities across the network.

These together with a regular programme of assessment and evaluation ensure that all members of the GEMS team in GEMS schools and at the corporate level perform to high professional standards.

The Senior Management Team


Mr. Thomas Mathew
Principal

Mr. Thomas Mathew holds the post of the Principal at Our Own English High School, Sharjah, Boys’ Branch. Mr. Thomas has over 25 years experience in the educational field. He was the founder Principal of Air Force Vidya Bharati School, Gwalior which was adjudged the ‘Best Air Force School’ for two consecutive years (1992 & 1993). He has also served as the Principal of Hamdard Public School, a semi-residential day boarding school in New Delhi.

Mr Thomas joined the GEMS Group in 1995 and from November 2000 to July 2007 he was the Headmaster of Our Own English High School, Sharjah.

Currently he is the Convener of the GEMS Sports Purchase Committee.His interests include games and traveling.

The Principal, Mr Thomas was awarded with the CBSE Teacher Award which he received from Mr.Kapil Sibil ,Union HRD Minister on 5th September 2009.


Mr. Purshottam Dutt
HeadMaster

Mr. Purshottam Dutt joined OOEHS Sharjah - Boys’ Branch as Headmaster in November 2010. He is an MBA with specializations in Marketing and Information Technology and a Post graduate in Mathematics from MD University, India. Coming from a family of educators, he has worked with some of the renowned schools in Delhi, NCR. He started his teaching career at DPS Maruti Kunj, Gurgaon. Apart from teaching he actively participated in many co-curricular activities in the school.
His career at GD Goenka World School started in 2006, where he taught the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Mathematics and Theory of Knowledge Courses. He was also actively involved in developing software to manage the IBDB program of the school. Mr. Dutt is an IB trained Mathematics HL/SL teacher and is also an IB Mathematics HL Examiner. He was also the SAT Examination coordinator for a period of two years.
An avid reader, he has keen interest in sports. Mr. Dutt has represented his College and School in Football and Cricket. He enjoys watching movies and listening to music. Mr. Dutt firmly believes that in schools apart from regular curriculum transaction, teachers must work with students to develop their Emotional Intelligence as well. It is brilliance which will take them to the top but it is the emotional maturity which will help them to stay there and grow further as role models.


Mr.Keenan Pimenta
Senior Supervisor

Mr. Keenan Pimenta joined as the Senior Supervisor this year and he has been teaching for about 25 years in India and in the UAE and considers himself to be a lifelong learner. Some of the schools he has taught in India include St Columba’s School, New Delhi, St Joseph’s College, Naini Tal, St Mary’s High School, Kolkata, St Edmund’s High School, Shillong, Meghalaya (where he was Principal for 5 years) and Dhirubai Ambani International School, Mumbai. He was appointed as Inspector for schools seeking accreditation to the ICSE board in Nagaland and Meghalaya for 2 years. He served as Principal of Al Diyafah High School, Dubai for three years.
Mr Keenan’s interests range from music (singing, playing guitar) and dramatics (musicals, operas) to taking active part in environmental campaigns and bird-watching. He is a certified trainer and teacher for the GLOBE project (www.globe.gov) initiated by ex-US Vice President Al Gore. He loves art, drawing and mind-mapping and plays and enjoys all games including cricket, football, hockey and basketball.
 
 
 Mr. Faizal A K
Supervisor Secondary School
 
Mr. Faizal (M.Sc. PHYSICS, B.Ed.) has 14 years of teaching experience. He started his teaching career with Medical/Engineering Entrance Coaching Division in Dubai. In 2003, joined Ideal Indian School, Doha- Qatar as a Post graduate teacher in Physics and worked for 6 years.
Mr. Faizal joined Our Own English High School, Sharjah , Boys’ Branch in April 2009 as a Post graduate teacher in Physics. He has been a House Master, Exam Coordinator, PISA coordinator and   In-charge of Robotic Competitions. He has received Certificate of Appreciation for achieving excellent result in Physics in the Grade XII CBSE Board Examination.
In Sept 2012, he took over as the Supervisor of Secondary School.
 
 
 

 

 Mr. Colin Gomes
Supervisor Middle School

Mr. Colin Gomes (BA, B.Ed - Delhi University ) has over 33 years of experience as a Mathematics Teacher. He joined Our Own Dubai in 1986 and has received several letters of appreciation for producing excellent Board results. He has been a House Master and was the recipient of the Best Teacher award in 1998. Mr. Colin joined Our Own Sharjah Boys’ Branch as Supervisor on 20/11/2008. 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Sindhu.P. Nair
Supervisor Middle School

Mrs. Sindhu.P.Nair (MSc. B.Ed. – Mumbai University) has been in this profession for the past 16 years and has managed to carve a niche for herself. She joined the GEMS group in the year 2000. Her journey as a teacher has been laced with accolades, notably being winning the ‘GEMS TEACHER AWARD’ twice.  She has also delivered Professional Development workshops and is the Assistant Professional Development Coordinator of the school. She has also been successful in achieving the GEMS Trainer Accreditation.She has been part of the Inter-School teachers’ quiz and debate team that has won many a laurels. The creative facet of her personality has lent color to School Concerts. She is a voracious reader and enjoys watching movies, listening to music. She believes every child is a promise and education is the candle that alleviates the darkness of ignorance.    

 

Mrs. Mini Tripathi
Primary Head 

Mrs. Mini Tripathi (BSc, MA English, Uttaranchal University) has over 24 years of experience. She joined Our Own Sharjah in 1990 as a Science Teacher in the Middle School. In 1998 she took over as the Supervisor of the Kindergarten 1 and 2 which then comprised of 54 sections. She was a recipient of the Best Teacher Award in 1996. A proactive individual, she introduced such programmes as Orientation for parents, Look Who’s Answering Quiz, Creations – a teacher workshop, Interactive CDs, Look Who’s Answering CDs, printed notebooks and resource handbooks for KG. She was also selected to attend a workshop for ‘Potential Principal’.

 

 Mrs. Queenie Phillips
Primary Supervisor Grades 1, 2,3 & 4

Mrs. Queenie Phillips has done her MA, B.Ed. from Gangotri - Mysore University, India, and began her teaching career in 1979 and has since been involved in the field of education. She has 28 years of experience in Primary education and administration.

Mrs. Phillips has served in two of the country’s most distinguished schools, one of them being ‘Clarence High School, Bangalore’. There she spent the first 6 years as a Primary school teacher and moved on to become the Primary Head for the next 11 years. She also had the privilege of teaching English to the Middle School of Hebron School, Ooty, that followed the National Curriculum for England.In Dubai, she worked as an ‘English Language Trainer’ at the Emirates In-flight Catering Co. L.L.C., and in May 2002 she joined The Kindergarten Starters, Dubai as Supervisor for Grades II and III and in 2009 moved to the Our Own School, Sharjah, Boy’s Branch as Supervisor of Grade 1 to 3. Her emphasis is to develop students who are excited about learning and who will go on to be life long learners.

 

Ms.Sameera Moosa

Arabic Supervisor
Ms Sameera Moosa has completed her degree in Arabic and Islamic fro

m Islamic and Arabic studies college –Dubai and has over

 11 years of teaching experience. She joined Our Own Sharjah as Arabic teacher in the year 2000 and was the recipient of Best Teacher Award in the year 2003-2004.

A very creative and artistic person, she is credited with celebrating UAE National Day on a grand scale.Ms Sameera strives hard to develop the Arabic language in children.She has a passion for social service and is a volunteer for 'Emirates Foundation', the UAE Philanthropic Organization founded by the Govt.of Abu Dhabi
