What is GEMS Music Academy?
GEMS Music Academy (GMA) is an independent music school that gives children an opportunity to learn to play a variety of musical instruments. The academy provides students, from age 6 and up a chance to develop a lifelong appreciation of music, an enthusiasm for learning, and provides a nurturing environment, where they learn the skills they need to explore their creative potential in various styles of music.
Whether your child is preparing for the Trinity/ABRSM music exams, brushing up on musical skills, or learning to play a musical instrument for the very first time, our professional music faculty is committed to helping your child achieve their musical goal.
Why is music important for your child?
In recent years, numerous studies have been conducted to examine the impact that an education in music has on a child’s ability to learn, especially when it comes to reading and mathematics.

One report linked the study of music, including the rhythmic, tonal and practical skills it provides, to a superior cognitive performance in reading.

Neuroscientists also underlined the benefits of an education in music when they discovered that music uses more parts of the brain than most other activities. These are the same areas of the brain which are involved in analytical and mathematical thinking.

Another study showed that music education can positively impact our physical and mental well-being, including relieving anxiety, promoting relaxation, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, and also helping with social development.
While music can increase our ability to learn, the benefits of education in music reach beyond the classroom and academic settings. Music teaches your child to connect with themselves and others. It teaches them how to make decisions and to problem solve. It raises self esteem and opens doors to dreams and aspirations.

Key Features of the Music Academy

The half hour, one on one music lessons that occur during school hours, allows for your child to learn in their individual learning style.

The Academy provides a secure, inspiring place for your child to learn and practice a musical instrument.

Your child will be taught by professional instructors who come from a range of musical backgrounds, bring a wealth of practical, real-world experience in their subject area and remain actively engaged in professional work. (Please see more information about our instructors below).

We offer rotating class time tables so your child does not miss the same class every week. Sample class times can be:
Week 1: 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Week 2: 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. etc.

Parents can choose between 10 lessons per term or 30 lessons per academic year.

Children have the ability to take music examinations such as ABRSM and Guildhall Trinity.

Children at the Academy are given performance opportunities which allow them to excel outside their own community, develop self esteem and life skills.

Registration Procedure
Please complete the Online Enquiry and Pre-registration form. We will then contact you to confirm availability and arrange advance payment.
Term Start Dates for 2013-14 Academic Year
Term 1 – 22nd September 2013
Term 2 – 5th January 2014
Term 3 – 20th April 2014
Fees
1 Term (10 lessons): AED 1,500
3 Terms (30 lessons): AED 4,200
Note: Payment deadline for the first term is 12th Sept 2013.
