GEMS Language Academy is an independent language school, launched in October 2012, which gives children and adults an opportunity to learn modern foreign languages such as Mandarin, Spanish, English and Arabic.

This extra-curricular programme consists of two hours of classes per week and is offered at selected GEMS Schools.

What are the benefits of learning another language?

Learning another language will open new doors for your child personally, professionally, and socially.

It will provide them with new opportunities and perspectives that they might never have encountered otherwise. Research has shown that remaining monolingual does not allow for a child’s full educational development, may restrict their communication and thinking abilities and often does not give them the tools to fully appreciate and understand the world they live in.

Who is the programme for?

The Mandarin, Spanish, English and Arabic language programmes are for students aged 5-18 years. The levels available include - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

We also offer language programmes for adults.

What are the key features of the language programmes?

• Small teaching groups – a maximum of 14 students
• Qualified and experienced native speaker teachers
• Classes offered after school hours during the academic year
• Classes scheduled for two hours per week allowing for a maximum of 60 hours of language learning per year
• A focus on developing confidence and communicative ability in the language
• Certificate after completion of the GEMS Language Programme

The Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of learners at all levels using a communicative student-centred teaching approach. In the beginner level, students will learn to use the right words and phrases for everyday life. In the intermediate level, students will learn to express ideas on diverse social situations and build vocabulary in a wide range of subjects. At the advanced level, the students will progress through refining skills, debate and use of persuasive language.

Our language teachers use a range of resources including textbooks, newspapers, workbooks, visual aids, audio and online content.

How do I know if my child is making progress?

Student progress is monitored at regular intervals to support future target setting.
Upon completion of a level, each student will receive a progress report and is awarded with a certificate of completion.

Complete the online enquiry and pre-registration form. GEMS Language Academy will then contact you. Students who are complete beginners will be invited to register in a suitable class and non-beginners will be invited for a short level test to ensure that they are correctly placed before they register.

What will it cost?

The cost per term is AED1500.
