What is the National Curriculum for England?

EngalndThis is a broad and balanced curriculum covering all the major arts, sciences and humanities subjects and is taught in 150 countries across the world. It is based on a comprehensive framework that outlines expected levels of achievement and attainment through all stages of a student’s school life.

The curriculum develops specific skills and competencies but also emphasises critical thinking, enquiry, creativity, planning and other skills needed to meet the challenges of a changing world.

Children are seen as active learners and expected to discuss ideas and debate with their teachers and peers. They work in groups and teams as well as individually.

American Curriculum

AmericanThe American curriculum is based on American standards of achievement in all subject areas, supported by a huge range of co-curricular activities that ensure students have the opportunity to develop fully as individuals.

It includes enquiry-based, hands-on teaching methods and learning strategies geared to individualized instruction.

Any American curriculum refers to a broad and balanced Kindergarten to Year 12 [K-12] program commencing with entry to Kindergarten at age 5 and concluding with the award of the American High School Diploma on successful completion of Grade 12, at age 17.

The American diploma is accepted for entrance by all US universities and colleges, and is increasingly recognized by international schools of higher education.

The quality of the American diploma is ensured by institutional accreditation and our American curricula schools are accredited by groups such as the highly respected Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

International Baccalaureate

InternationalThe International Baccalaureate (IB) offers high quality programmes of international education.The three IB programmes for students, aged 3 to 19, help to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalising world.


These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The programmes are modelled on elements of educational systems from around the world but the end result is a different curriculum.

It began originally as a programme for internationally mobile students but now works with 2,984 schools in 139 countries to bring the curriculum to approximately 831,000 students worldwide.

The three IB programmes are:

  • The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is for students aged 3 to 12
  • The Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16
  • The Diploma Programme (DP), for students in the final two years of school before university

The Indian Curriculum

IndianWe offer curricula from the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and the CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The CBSE curriculum is designed and developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi, and prepares students for the All India CBSE Secondary Schools Examination at age 16 - end of grade 10 - and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination at age 18 - end of grade 12.

The CISCE curriculum prepares students for the ISCE examination in the secondary school and the ISC (Indian School Certificate) examination in the final year of secondary school.

Both curricula provide a platform for the development of diverse intelligences in children and provide multiple avenues for developing every child’s potential.

Subjects studied include business studies, informatics and Indian languages as well as more traditional subjects such as Maths and English.

The examinations for both curricula prepare students for entrance exams to Indian universities to which there are direct curricular links, and also to universities worldwide. Dual/Local Curricula

Some of our schools offer a combination of curricula - perhaps the local state curriculum coupled with elements of an international one. Others will offer one international curriculum but for the two pre-university years will offer the IB Diploma as an alternative.
