At GEMS Wellington International School we believe that providing a framework of care and support for our students is central to students’ development. We recognise that all students have a range of social, emotional and personal needs that may need to be supported. Ensuring that students have access to this support will inevitably go a long way to ensuring that they are able to make real progress in all areas of their school lives. Therefore we have developed an effective and well defined system of pastoral care.
Form Tutors are the basis for all pastoral care within the school and should be the first point of contact for students and parents. It is the form tutor who will see the student during registration in the morning and afternoon, deliver the Curriculum Enrichment Programme and oversee assemblies in the secondary phase. Form Tutors deal with issues relating to behaviour, student relationships, attendance and academic progress. They liaise with parents through the Student Planner, telephone contact and parents evenings, record the Merits that students have been awarded and support all students personal organisation and development. More importantly, they are someone that members of the Form Group can turn to if they have a problem.
Managing the form tutors in each year is the Head of Year. They will deal with any long term educational or disciplinary concerns.
The School has also developed a wide of reward systems to ensure that all student achievement is acknowledged, regardless of students’ academic ability.
