Welcome from the Executive Principal
The education we provide at GEMS Sherfield is second to none. Our approach ensures pupils achieve the academic results and personal qualities needed to become successful adults. Our latest inspection report commented: The ethos of our school is based on our motto, ‘ Roots to Grow: Wings to Fly’ and our values of world citizenship, universal values, leadership and forward thinking. We provide a rich and challenging environment, where we set high standards and expect self discipline and thoughtfulness for others. Teaching methods are a blend of the traditional and the very best new ideas based on research into how the brain develops and functions. Our staff are well qualified, combining professional expertise with a commitment to bringing out the best in each child. Karen Chard (Head of Primary and Enrichment) and her team are experts in the development of pre-school and primary aged children. They ensure that Sherfield pupils are well prepared for the senior school including high attainment in reading, writing and mathematics. Olwen Wright (Head of Seniors), Zoe Wheddon (Deputy Head of Seniors/ Head of Pastoral Care and Boarding) are experts in secondary and sixth form education. The senior team understands the distinctive needs of pupils at this stage of learning and the importance of preparing them for examinations, university and employment. Working in partnership with our parents is central to our success. You will receive weekly contact from your child’s tutor and reports five times a year as well as the opportunity to attend parental consultations. You are always welcome to our parents’ café situated in the heart of the school. Friends of Sherfield (FOS) is a vibrant, active and welcoming group enabling parents and friends to make an enormous contribution to our school. We all enjoy the many social events including quizzes, picnics, and sponsored walks organised by FOS. In line with our values half of the money raised by FOS goes to very worthwhile local charities. We are extremely proud of our school and of every single child. You are most welcome to visit us to experience for yourself what we call the ‘Sherfield Spirit’. Professor Pat Preedy |
