Design and Technology
The Design and Technology Department exists to provide an effective technological education for children of all abilities and backgrounds. At the heart of Design and Technology is the design process. Using this process of design and the resources made available by Technology we aim to meet the needs of the pupils and therefore prepare for their place in life and work in the increasingly technological world in which we live.
Design and Technology covers a wide range of specialist areas of study, therefore the curricula arrangements are based around project work, with the children rotating through the specialist areas. Knowledge is gained by practical experience, reading, by the use of videotapes and other methods of instruction. Great emphasis is placed on the careful presentation and good style, spelling and punctuation. This is generally delivered in the form of design folders, presentations and practical outcomes.
Progress of individual children is monitored carefully and targets set to ensure every pupil maximise their individual potential. Projects range from designing and making advanced fashion products to computer aided design and manufacture projects.
