Do you love to listen to music? Do you ever wonder how your favourite magazine seems to know ‘you and your interests’ so well? Love watching films, discussing the latest instalment of Big Brother or can’t seem to get enough of the latest X-Man comic? Then Media Studies is for you!
Over the course of the 2 years in Media Studies, students may create magazines for underrepresented audiences, put on a photo shoot for a band of their own production, and may even present their bands to the owner of a local music festival!
The possibilities in Media Studies are absolutely endless!
Currently in Media Studies there are four units.
Unit 1: Investigating the Media
Unit 2: Understanding the Media
Unit 3: Exploring Media Industries
Unit 4: Responding to a Media Brief
Unit 1 and unit 3 are modular exams, each 1 hour 30 minutes long. Unit 2 and Unit 4 are controlled assessments done during lesson times.
'This is a Year 11 Media Studies student's Assignment 3 Practical piece. Students had to research an artist who was on an independent record label. The end result was a music video based on a song which a hadn't been made yet to further promote the artist.
This student's work received an A* overall. The video also has some great shots of the school grounds, Buckfield House and various parts of the Sherfield campus.'
