National Curriculum for England

IGCSE Exams

The Cambridge Top of the World prizes are awarded to those candidates who have achieved the highest marks in the world in a Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS or A level subject examination sessions. 

  • IGCSE Exam results in GEMS Schools have been as high as 98 percent for 5 A*-C which is nearly 40 points above the national average in the United Kingdom. 

2009

  • A student from Cambridge International School received the highest mark in the world for the Cambridge IGCSE English Literature Exam.
  • A student from Cambridge International School obtained the highest mark in the UAE in the Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies Exam.
  • A student from The Westminster School received the Cambridge Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in the A Level Category.   
  • A student from The Westminster School received the Cambridge Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in the AS Level Category.   

2008

  • 31 students from Jumeirah College received 8 to 11 A* / A Grades in the GCSE examinations.
  • A student from GEMS Cambridge International School, Dubai obtained 5 A’s at the A level and English Language Learner level
  • A student from The GEMS Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi was amongst the top 10 performing IGCSE students for Arabic.
  • A student from International School Tripoli, a GEMS Managed School, obtained one of the highest marks in the world for the Edexcel Geography exam.
  • A student from GEMS Cambridge International School, Dubai, obtained one of the top 10 marks in the world for the Edexcel Mathematics exam. 

IGCSE Exams

2007   

  • 72 percent of GEMS students obtained five or more Grades A* to C, (including English and Mathematics) which is almost 30 points higher than the average 46 percent in England.
  • A student from Our Own English High School, Al Ain obtained the highest mark in the world for the Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language exam.
  • Three of the top five marks in Edexel GCSE Spanish were achieved by students of GEMS Jumeirah College.
  • One of the top five marks in the world for the AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) French scores was also obtained by a student from Jumeirah College.

2006 

  • Two students from The Cambridge International School, Dubai, tied for the highest mark in the world for their results in the Cambridge IGCSE English Literature exam
  • A student from the Cambridge International School obtained Top of the World status for the highest mark in the IGCSE Environmental Management exam.

2005

  • The top mark in the world for the Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry Exam was obtained by a GEMS student from The Westminster School.

The second highest mark in the world for the Cambridge IGCSE Biology Exam was obtained by another student from The Westminster School.  

American Curriculum

Iowa Tests of Basic Skills [ITBS]

ITBS are tests that are used as state benchmark tests in a number of states in the US and are one of the most trusted and respected tests for students in Grades 2- 8 in American International Schools worldwide.

2007

  • Dubai American Academy ranked among the top 4 percent of all schools in Mathematics in the Elementary School Division and among the top 6 percent for Literacy

2006

  • Dubai American Academy ranked among the top 6 percent of all schools in Mathematics in the Elementary School Division and among the top 9 percent for Literacy

IB Diploma

2008

  • 87 percent of students from Dubai American Academy writing the IB examinations, 2008 were awarded full diplomas.

2006

  • Over 33 percent of Dubai American Academy IB Students achieved Very Good and above compared with 20 percent worldwide.

Indian Curriculum

2008 

  • With over 2,000 GEMS students from 9 schools, writing the exams, GEMS had a 100 percent pass rate
  • A student from Our Own English High School, Dubai obtained the highest mark in the UAE for the CBSE Grade 10 Examinations
  • Eight students from Our Own English High School, Dubai received Certificates of Merit for being in the top 0.1 percent

2007

  • A student from Our Own Indian School, Dubai, obtained the highest scores in the UAE in the Science Stream
  • A student from Our Own Indian School, Dubai obtained the highest mark in the Humanities Stream
  • Students from Our Own English High School, Al Ain and Our Own English High School, Abu Dhabi received Certificates of Merit for being in the top 0.1percent

2006

  • Four of the top five CBSE Science stream scores in the United Arab Emirates were awarded to students from GEMS Schools
  • Five of the top ten CBSE Commerce stream scores in the United Arab Emirates were awarded to students in GEMS Schools.

2005

  • Three students from Our Own English High School, Abu Dhabi were awarded Certificates of Merit for being in the top 0.1percent in the English CBSE Examinations.
  • Two students from Our Own English High School, Al Ain  received Certificates of Merit for being in the top 0.1percent (Grade XII)
  • A student from Our Own English High School, Al Ain Indian School won the prestigious Government of India’s Bio Technology Award for the outstanding Academic Performance in Biology at the Grade 12 CBSE examination.

ISC/ICSE*

  • Dubai Modern High School is one of the few schools out side of India to offer the Indian School Certificate (ISC).

  • Over 80 percent of Dubai Modern High School students  obtained over 80 percent in the ISC exams
  • More than 80 percent of students from Dubai Modern High School scored over 80 percent in the ICSE exams

  • A Dubai Modern High School student was one mark short of the highest mark in the world for ISC examinations
  • Over 70 percent of Dubai Modern High School students  obtained over 80 percent in the ISC exams

National and International Accolades

CIS International Student Award

The CIS International Student Award gives public recognition to those who best exemplify the attributes of international citizenship, through a clear commitment to interaction with students of other nationalities, languages or ethnic backgrounds and students from different political / economic systems; all in a spirit of understanding and cooperation. 

2008

  • The Year 7 Class at GEMS Royal Dubai School was awarded the CIS International Student Award for 2008 (Middle School), in recognition for the outstanding service to Patar Kalan village, Punjab, India.
  • A Year 6 student from GEMS Jumeirah Primary School was awarded the CIS International Student award for 2008, in recognition of entrepreneurial skills and leadership qualities shown as chairman of the Bizkids Project.

2006 - 2007

  • A student from Dubai American Academy received the CIS (Council of International Schools) International Student Award, in recognition for exemplifying attributes of international citizenship

Dubai Quality Award

The award honours an education organisation, in Dubai yearly, for introducing and benefiting from quality concepts and practices which raise the level of overall quality of the school, while sustaining excellence. The award has been considered one of the most valuable tools to measure an organisations performance and their ability to gain higher growth through leadership, innovation and continuous improvement. 

2007

  • Dubai Modern High School was presented with the Dubai Quality Award, in the Quality Appreciation Programme, education section. The award was presented by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance

The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance honours distinguished and evolving academic excellence.

2009

  • A student from The Millennium School won the award for Academic Excellence.  

2008

  • A student from The Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi received the award for Academic Excellence in the AS Level category
  • A student from The Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi received the award for Academic Excellence in the A Level category. 
  • A student from Our Own English High School, Dubai was recognised with the Distinguished Student in the Basic Education Category (Grades 1 to 5)

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Awards

The Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Awards honour and reward students in the UAE achieving outstanding exam results in the Cambridge IGCSE, A and AS Level exams. The award also recognises those who have contributed significantly to their school and local community.

2007

  • A student from The Westminster School, received the H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Special Achievement
  • A teacher from The Westminster School was honoured with the HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Inspirational Teacher Award, for 2007

2006

  • Two students from The Cambridge International School, Dubai, received the Top of the World Award as they tied for the highest mark in the world for their results in the Cambridge IGCSE English Literature exam
  • A student from the Cambridge International School obtained Top of the World status for obtaining the highest mark in the IGCSE Environmental Management exam.

Accreditations and Affiliations

All GEMS Schools are accredited and/or affiliated to internationally acclaimed education organizations, independently confirming that GEMS Schools’ provide internationally recognised high standards. 

Almost all GEMS Schools that offer an international curriculum are members of the Council of International Schools (CIS), - an international school organization dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of education and school operation.  CIS is one of the world’s most widely recognised international accrediting organizations. 

In addition Dubai American Academy offers the IB Diploma, and GEMS World Academy is an IB candidate school offering the Primary Years, and Middle Years Programme.

GEMS Schools offering an Indian Curriculum are affiliated to the CBSE, Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India or the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, India

Cambridge International Fellowship

GEMS Westminster School and The Cambridge International School, Dubai, have both been awarded Cambridge International Fellowship Centre Status. They are two of five schools in the GCC who have been awarded this status by the University of Cambridge International Examinations. Both schools received this status for exemplary practice in examinations, quality of teaching and consistently high results in the IGCSE, AS and A-Level examinations.

HH Sheikha Fatima Award for Excellence

Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Award for Excellence 2008
His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, awarded the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Award for Excellence to 24 students from GEMS network of schools, held at GEMS Wellington International School - 2008
GEMS supports the achievement of academic excellence and commitment to the environment of girls across the network of GEMS schools through the Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Award for Excellence. Each year one girl from each GEMS School in the UAE, is honoured with this award based on her outstanding academic achievement and commitment to social responsibility. The girls are awarded a full year scholarship to study in a GEMS school.

Young Entrepreneur Award

The GEMS Young Entrepreneur Awards was established to raise awareness of the role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in building a successful future and to support the innovative and creative business ideas of GEMS students.

Winners are chosen from three different age categories, and the winning teams receive a cash prize which is used to finance entrepreneurial ideas within their GEMS School.

The GEMS Fellowship of the University of Cambridge

Senior GEMS educationalists who demonstrate exceptional performance and expertise in a particular educational field are nominated to attend the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge for a term. They have the opportunity to work directly with the Chair, Educational Leadership, and Faculty of Education.

GEMS Teacher Awards

GEMS recognises the important role that teachers play in supporting excellence in schools and in helping students achieve their all around potential. Annually, fifteen teachers who demonstrate exceptional commitment, performance and innovation are selected for the GEMS Teacher Award.

Learning Network

GEMS employs over 6,500 education professionals representing significant opportunities to share the very best of educational practice, knowledge and methodology from around the world. GEMS Learning Networks provide opportunities for GEMS practioners to lead the sharing of best practice and innovation across the full range of specialties.  Through GEMS Learning Networks teachers share expertise and best practise across the network, ensuring continuous improvement and on going development.

GEMS Academic Council

GEMS Academic Council was developed to ensure that GEMS remains at the very forefront of educational development and change. Driven by GEMS top educationalists, specialists and teacher researchers the council reviews and implements best practise, innovation and emerging education trends from around the world.
