Year 1
Year 1 continues to develop and expand the foundations laid in the Early years. The curriculum follows the Key Stage 1 attainment targets, working closely with Year 2.
Literacy, Numeracy, and Science are the key areas, but the full curriculum provides children with opportunities to explore new skills through other subjects such as History, Geography, PSHE, Religious Education, Art & Design and ICT. These subjects are Topic Based. Music, Dance, Swimming and PE are taught by specialist staff.
Year 2
Year 2 continues to develop and extend the progress achieved in Year 1.
The curriculum follows the Key Stage 1 Attainment Targets, working closely with the transition class to prepare the children to move onto Key Stage 2.
Literacy, Numeracy and Science are the key areas, but the full curriculum provides the children with opportunities to explore new skills through other subjects such as History, Geography, PSHE, Religious Education, Art & Design, Food Technology. ICT and Drama. Music Dance ,Swimming and PE are taught by specialist teachers.
The children's progress is monitored by target setting, individual testing within the key areas and at the end of the academic year they complete the Key Stage 1 SATS Tests. The children are encouraged to become independent and confident members of the school.
