Year 3 is a transition year from the Infant to the Junior Department. In addition to about 75% of the curriculum being delivered by their form teacher, they are also given specialist teaching in a number of subjects such as, PE, ICT, drama etc. There is more emphasis and guidance given with important skills such as organisation and a greater expectation of taking on more independence as they go through the year. By the end of Year 3 all the children are thoroughly prepared for the challenges awaiting them in Year 4.

Year 4
In year 4 children continue to build on their independence. The children's learning is nurtured by specialist teachers in all subject areas. The work taught provides children with the necessary building blocks for success in Year 5. Homework set reinforces and extends the curriculum covered which increases throughout the year in preparation for Year 5 and 6.

Year 5
The children are now in their last full year before taking their entrance exams. This makes it a very important one. Although they have a full academic timetable, the children thrive on all the other activities available, such as Drama, Music and Sport, and they are actively encouraged to do as much as possible. They should also be more organised and disciplined without relying less on others.

Year 6
In their final year pupils take on more responsibility, with important positions such as School Captains, House Captains, Library Assistants etc.. In addition to a broad range of subjects, which are all studied in depth, pupils are prepared for entrance exams to leading independent schools, including Manchester Grammar School and Withington Girls School. Moor Allerton has an outstanding record of excellence in this area.
