Moor Allerton Preparatory School was founded in 1914 and has long enjoyed reputation for achieving academic success, whilst encouraging a spirit of inquisitiveness and creativity. The original building was on Palatine Road. During the War years it used premises at the Ryleys School and Pownall Hall School before moving to its present site on Barlow Moor Road. The school is situated in a pleasant area of West Didsbury in a large Victorian house, to which other buildings have been added, and it is within easy reach of the M56 and M60 motorways and other main roads.

Moor Allerton is a small co-educational school and has the atmosphere of an extended family. Everyone is made to feel welcome and of importance to the other members of the School, no matter what their age. Although a happy companionship between teacher and pupil is maintained, a feeling of respect for those in authority is also engendered.

All children are welcomed and encouraged to learn respect for differing cultures by living and working alongside those of other faiths and backgrounds, whilst maintaining their own identity. The intrinsic worth of each individual is stressed on a social, moral and spiritual level.
