The role of Alumni in supporting the transition from school to work
Future First Global is a global charity dedicated to improving the school to work transition for millions of young people around the world, through unleashing the potential of alumni networks for high schools.
Their research shows that, while only 2% of alumni from hundreds of schools around the world had engaged with their former schools, over 50% would do so if they were asked. With 75 million young people are out of work (#WISE14), there are significant potential in accessing alumni networks:
- work experience placements
- career mentoring advice
- role models
We believe this willingness to give back could help students transition from school to work - no matter where in the world our alumni end up.
Did you know...any group of fish that stay together for social reasons are shoaling, and if the group is swimming in the same direction in a coordinated manner, they are schooling? About one quarter of fishes shoal all their lives, and about one half of fishes shoal for part of their lives. Just like the GEMS Alumni, they have worked out the many benefits from staying together! Just one of the wonders of learning with GEMS.
