Little GEMS International Al Barsha suspends educational services

Little GEMS International Al Barsha will not be reopening in the new academic year. Children from the nursery will be offered priority placement in other schools within the GEMS network.

COVID-19 has affected families, businesses and whole industries around the world – and Little GEMS International Al Barsha is no exception. The pandemic and the resulting uncertainty around whether or not, and in what shape and form, nurseries and pre-schools will be permitted to reopen in September has proved exceptionally testing. Enrolment numbers have been severely impacted and our ability to sustain our operations has come under significant strain, despite our best efforts.

As a result of these circumstances, we have been forced to make some very difficult decisions, and it is with great sadness that that Little GEMS International Al Barsha will not be reopening in the new academic year. Enrolment numbers for 2020-21 remain extremely low and we cannot continue to run the pre-school at such a significant loss.

This decision has been an incredibly hard one to make and comes as a last resort. Those who are long-time families with Little GEMS International will be aware how highly GEMS Education values its only standalone nursery in the region. We are all tremendously proud of the achievements of our pre-school, including being named the Silver Award Winner for the Best Nursery Dubai in last year’s Mother, Baby and Child Awards and retaining the highest parent satisfaction survey ratings of all GEMS schools for the past three consecutive years.

Children who were due to join the Little GEMS International Al Barsha Foundation Stage 1 (Emeralds section) on 30 August will be offered priority placement in FS1 in any of other schools in the GEMS network.

Children who were due to join Amethysts (1-2 year olds) and Sapphires (2-3 year olds) classes, will be offered priority placement at GEMS World Academy Nursery, pending the announcement from the Ministry of Education regarding the reopening of nurseries.

Whichever option fits best, the Little GEMS International and GEMS parent relations teams will ensure the admissions process is smooth and seamless. GEMS will assist families with individual family tours of each school and assist with internal transfers of all enrolment documentation, funds and play assessment records.

Any families who do not wish to transfer to an alternative school within the GEMS network will be provided a full refund of any fees paid.

We are committed to supporting the affected families during this transition and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by this difficult decision.
