GEMS Wellington Academy - Al Khail

Opened in September 2013, GEMS Wellington Academy-Al Khail is an international world-class school dedicated to fostering a passion for excellence in learning and in life. We provide rich and relevant learning opportunities based on the highly successful GEMS Wellington Schools academic learning model. We are a very diverse school community which celebrates the cultures, backgrounds, abilities and talents of all students who are represented in over 80 nationalities.

GEMS Wellington Academy-Al Khail delivers programmes for learning that are rooted in the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) and enhanced by best practice globally so that students achieve the best possible academic outcomes and develop the habits and competencies which will make them successful lifelong learners. The curriculum in our Secondary School is designed to prepare our students for their GCSE studies in Years 10 and 11 and A-Level courses in Years 12 and 13.

Our three pillars provide the foundational priorities that underpin the teaching and learning at GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail. They include 1) The Science of Learning 2) Social Enterprise and Innovation, and 3) Student Agency. Using these pillars as guides, we create pathways for our students to succeed both academically and personally.

Recent highlights for our school include the launch of our Wellington Performance Football Centre (WPFC) in September 2021. The WPFC provides talented young footballers a holistic full-time student athlete programme, designed to mirror the ethos and comprehensive training schedule of professional players. It provides a year-round training and games schedule built into the school’s daily curriculum.

We are also very proud to announce that our school was judged to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas of our British Schools Overseas Inspection of November 2019. The inspection report acknowledged that “across the school, pupils make outstanding progress in a range of subjects to reach high standards, well above UK averages, particularly in the context of non-selective schools.”

Our world-class facilities include purpose-built classrooms, science and technology labs, auditorium and theatre, recording and video studio, a 3-level gymnasium and tennis courts, 2 x 25 metre swimming pools, football and rugby pitches and specialist music, art, language and design rooms. We use these facilities to improve the quality of the study environment in the school, thus improving the quality of education.
